Planning a romantic stay-cation in your city

Author:

Date: August 21st 2015

If you have been dreaming about getting away for a romantic break with your sweetie, but find time and money are in short supply, here are some ways to have a romantic stay-cation in your own city on a limited budget. Choose a region you haven’t explored If you live in the suburbs, even spending a weekend in the Central Business District (CBD) can be an adventure. You can explore the culture, shopping and hidden features of your CBD at a more relaxed pace than you usually see as you hurry to work. Also, most large Australian cities are on the coast, so if you live inland, it can also be fun to have a break near the beach and spend your days walking along the beach and paddling in the water. You can also try heading inland for a tour of your local wine region or beautiful old growth forests. Try and locate interesting spots you haven’t explored within and hour or two’s drive of your home to maximise the time you can spend away from home. Find a bed and breakfast While you can stay at home for nothing, you’d be faced with the looming to do list and the dirty dishes in the sink. So find a bed and breakfast that has all the advantages of home without the disadvantages of your own home. Being able to sleep in a luxurious bed and come out to a beautiful, home cooked breakfast is a great indulgence and will put you in a fine mood for relaxation and romance. Bed and breakfasts are usually cheaper than a hotel, particularly when extras like parking and Wi-Fi are factored in. The hosts can often help you find little local attractions that are off the beaten track as well! Nix the devices If you are short on time and money, the best thing you can do to make sure this time is as special as possible is to make sure your attention is fully on the time you have together. Keep the devices to a minimum — try locking them up in the bed and breakfasts safe and only checking in once a day. If you need to have an emergency contact, you can always give the number of the bed and breakfast landline to the babysitter or other emergency contacts. Have a great time on your romantic stay-cation. No matter how […]

Author:

Date: June 24th 2015

If you are planning an Eco-friendly vacation then you will likely be looking for a green hotel for your accommodations. This may seem like an easy task, but finding the right hotel for your stay can be a bit difficult if you don’t know how to locate them. Here are four ways to find the ideal green hotel for your Eco-friendly vacation and ensure you are being as kind to the environment as possible during your travels. Look for Vegan If your idea of green hotels and living is a full green experience, and not just recycled building materials or energy efficiency, then consider looking for vegan accommodations. This is one of the easiest ways to find a true green hotel is to look for a vegan hotel or pro-vegan hotel. These hotels generally try to offer organic food, vegan friendly environments, and vegan room items like bedding and drapes. If you want the full experience, then this is the ideal way to go. Travel Out of Country Countries like Thailand host events throughout the year for people living a green or vegan lifestyle. This means they have more accommodations that are geared toward Eco-friendly vacations. Consider visiting these countries and using accommodations that are more bare bones like island huts, off-grid options, and travel options that are geared to outdoor tourist attractions and locations. Consider Green Associations There are hundreds of green living associations around the world that list green hotels among other things. These are ideal resources for finding the right hotel for your needs and your green vacation. You can also use these associations to narrow down the type of hotel you want, the level of luxury you want, and the amenities you are looking for. You can also search most associations lists by country, city, and even pricing. Carbon Neutral Options One option you may not have considered is to find a carbon neutral hotel option. These options reduce their emissions to ensure there is no carbon entering the environment from their hotel operations. They also take steps to reduce their carbon footprint by using low-flow water options, eating food found in the local area, and offering amenities that are nature oriented like hiking or outdoor yoga. Using these four ways to find an ideal green hotel for your Eco-friendly vacation can lead to the ideal vacation package for your needs. If you still aren’t sure […]

3 Tips on How to Get the Best Value for Your Money on Premium Hotel Rooms

Author:

Date: May 27th 2015

When travelling on vacation, chances are you might want a little luxury when booking hotel accommodation. So while your hotel room isn’t necessarily on a budget, there’s no reason why you can’t save a little money in the process. A few innovative tips will have you staying in a plush hotel, while still getting the best value for money from your vacation accommodation. Free Breakfasts Are a Must When you’re spending a few extra dollars on hotel accommodation, make sure you get some perks along with it and that includes a free breakfast. Most premium hotels offer free breakfasts for up to two people per room every day and you certainly want to take advantage of this value. You must also consider the value in terms of time and saved transport cost that a free breakfast delivers. You can even sleep in an extra hour as your free breakfast awaits you in the same hotel.   Ask About Personal Care Items Provided This may seem trivial, but you’ll be surprised at the value that it brings, especially with airlines clamping down on their weight allowances for travellers. Premium hotels offer personal care items like shampoos, body washes, soaps, toothbrushes, toothpastes and shower caps without any extra fee. Most hotels also offer grooming accessories like hair dryers, irons and ironing boards in your room. There’s no harm in asking about these extra amenities when booking accommodation. Having these items available at the hotel will lighten the load on your luggage, so you need not worry about paying extra for airline baggage fees. Check for Free Wi-Fi Most travellers require the Internet while they are on the move, whether it is for work or leisure. Either way, some hotels still charge for Wi-Fi and you simply don’t need this additional cost. Most vacation travellers need the Internet to check out maps, local restaurant guides and online information. Depending on the hotel accommodation, you may have to pay hourly or daily rates to access Wi-Fi. Even a small fee will end up costing you a hefty sum over your entire stay period. Choose hotel accommodation that offers free Wi-Fi to guests, so you have a care-free, Internet-enabled vacation with access to as much information as you desire through your stay.  When booking accommodation, price isn’t everything. Sometimes, you may find that premium hotels offer overall better value for money than budget accommodation. Check […]

Home From Home: Making Your Vacation Accommodation Feel Like Your Own

Author:

Date: April 28th 2015

There’s no getting around how exciting moving into vacation accommodation can be. You have your whole holiday ahead of you, and in the next few days, weeks, or months, you’ll experience things that you’re guaranteed to remember for a lifetime. But the human condition is a curious one, and even if you’re having the time your life in one of the most fun-filled vacation spots imaginable, there’s always a chance that homesickness might creep in. One of the best ways to battle this unsettling sensation is to make your accommodation feel as though it’s really yours, and by using these little tips and tricks below, you can make your temporary home feel like it’s your own. All you need to do is remember the acronym “HOME”. H – Host After the immediate excitement has subsided and your new hotel/hostel/apartment room has begun to feel a little more daunting, it’s worth acting out being a host to make the place truly feel like it’s yours. Take your time cooking a tasty meal if there’s a kitchen located in your room, and invite over anyone you might have met during your stay for something to eat. If you’re staying in a hostel, invite fellow guests up to your room for a drink. If you’re on business and staying in a hotel, tidy up your place, cook a little food (or order room service), and invite your new associates up to talk business in your room. Acting as the host really makes the place feel like yours, and that goes a long way to easing homesickness. O – On Your Arrival As soon as you arrive, whether it’s a hotel, hostel, serviced apartment or rented room, make a real effort with the staff at the desk, the landlord or your temporary roommate. Hotel/hostel staff in particular are used to lone travellers, and are expertly trained in making new customers feel extremely welcome. Introduce yourself properly, get to know their name, ask them for recommendations on where to go in the area, and – if you really hit it off – hang out with them when they’re off shift for a quick drink. You’ll be seeing these people everyday, and the more you get to know them, the more that your accommodation will truly feel like a familiar, homely place. M – Music A great way to curb the onset of homesickness is to […]

Romantic Winter Getaways in the Hills

Author:

Date: April 17th 2015

Not everyone loves summer. The approach of winter can be a great prompt for a tree-change holiday where you head up to the hills and explore local undisturbed bushland. Here are some things to look for in a motel for a cosy winter getaway. Electric Blankets and Snuggly Heaters While the frosty mornings and foggy landscapes can be romantic to look at, you’ll enjoy not having an ice-cold bed as well! Look for motels with electric blankets in each bed and good heaters in the bedrooms. Fires in shared rooms and restaurants can add a charming ambience and are perfect places to snuggle in close for hot chocolate and red wine! In room spas can also be a great place to warm up and relax after a day of hiking or exploring local wineries. Proximity to Nature If you love hiking and the outdoors activities that winter is so great for, look for a motel that is nice and close to hiking trails that are good for winter hiking. In Australia you can often get more hiking done in winter due to the lower bushfire risk, but it’s important to check the local fire service website before you head down as the winter is a popular time to do ‘back burning’ (preventive lighting of low fires due winter to reduce the ground level fuel load). Back burning can limit your access to certain trails. Before you head off on any hikes, be sure to let the motel staff (like the staff at Burswood Lodge) where you are going and when you expect to get back so that they can let authorities know if you don’t return as planned. Local Know-how If you are heading up to a small town, having a knowledgeable owner who can advise on the best local restaurants and attractions can help turn a ordinary weekend away into a memorable trip you can tell all of your friends about. While in large cities a lot of information is online, smaller town are not always as good about keeping their websites updated so talking to locals is a great way to make sure you don’t spend half a day driving to somewhere that shut three months ago. Winter is a great time to explore the hills and tree lined walks, with smaller crowds. Make the most of the opportunity to explore the local environment and have a romantic tree […]
